Nidhi Wiesner

Curriculum Vitae / Biography

Born in Waldenburg in 1955, Nidhi Wiesner grew up in Germany in a firm and rigid society, and was influenced by this rational, structured culture. As a result, she responded intuitively with paintings of a figurative, realistic nature. These paintings incited great interest and many sales for the artist.

Nidhi Wiesner has worked with different art forms, from Realism through to Figurative Expressionism and Abstract Art. She was educated at the Fine Art Institute in Cologne, the German Art capital. Her teacher, mentor and speaker at her first Vernissage in 1983 at the Popplesdorf Gallery in Bonn, is the celebrated artist Karl Marx. His influence, among others, coupled with Wiesner's love of travel and interest in Eastern meditation has created a special mix and fuel to infuse her work with much colour, form and light.

Emigrating to Australia in 1994, the land unleashed a passionate expression in Wiesner's art. With its vast landscapes, never-ending spaces, and the overwhelming power of the untamed and harsh landscape,
Wiesner's works vividly explore the intensity of colour, and reflect an acute sensitivity to the surroundings.

"Coming to Australia, I felt thrust into a new unknown environment; an ancient land of pure nature;
a primeval journey" she says. "I feel the synthesis between the known and the mysterious".

Nidhi Wiesner creates oil/acrylic/mixed media paintings on canvas using a combination of rich visceral layers of bold colours, sometimes with delicate iridescent spots of gold leaf. She continually strives to achieve excellence in her draughtsmanship, composition and technique, demonstrating a confident use of colour. Her art is deeply emotive, challenging how the viewer perceives the world and the nature. Her works are mostly completed landscapes drawn from her own imagination and memory.

Nidhi Wiesner has exhibited her work in London, Sydney, Brisbane and Cologne, Germany, with future exhibitions planned for Cologne, London and California for 2002-3. She has been painting and exhibiting for
over 20 years, and has completed commissions for mayors, corporations and private individuals.

When not furiously finding the time to paint, Wiesner "commutes" between London and Byron Bay, Australia.
